My Teachers C 1950.

In the last post I mentioned that my teachers at prep school didn't look like the teacher whose picture I posted.  These were (some of) my school's teachers circa 1950.

Top Left to bottom right: Mrs Ratchfiord, Miss Twomey, Miss Rimmer, Miss Dowling, Miss Rose ? Mrs Williams, Mr and Mrs Flynn and ?

    1. Yes, Fi, it was. I don't think in the 1950 anyone in 'ordinary' life had particularly adventurous or glamorous clothes.

  2. Wow, you are very lucky to have a photo of your school teachers, circa 1950. They look as if they could impart a wealth of knowledge!
I think we kept our teachers on their toes so much, they didn't have time to stay still to have a photo taken together...smile.
Is the gentleman in the middle the Head Master?

    1. Yes, Virginia. Mr Flynn was the Head Master - in fact for a year or two until Mr Illingworth joined the staff he was the only master.

  3. Well, that was 1950 - nobody would have walked around in a dress as short and "revealing" as the one the teacher in your other post sports. Your teachers don't look a bad lot. At least two of them seem very young. I find it odd to look at my old school pictures and realize that my teachters back then were younger than I am today.

    1. Miss Twomey was the Head Mistress and ruled with a ruthless iron fist. People after me at the school fared even worse than my class did at her hand. Mr Flynn, the Head Master was, on the other hand, a lovely man.

  4. The sight of Miss Twomey was enough to give me nightmares. Any idea who the others are? Are Mrs Rose or Miss Parry among them? Miss Meldrum?

    1. I've put the names under the photo. The names are based on my memory and the Ryebank Facebook page where I originally put this photo. I'm certain about Miss Twomey (who wouldn't be?), Miss Williams, Mr and Mrs Flynn. I'm reasonably certain from my memory about Miss (or Mrs) Dowling and Miss Rimmer. I'm think the bottom left is Miss Rose. I have no idea who the bottom right is but it's not Miss Meldrum. Did you know that she lived opposite Alder Hey? I went there but I'm not sure why.

  5. Brought back memories of Mrs Henderson: "Knees TOGETHER, girls!"
Lovely record. There's something crystal clear and honest about black and white...
