I Did It, I Jumped The Fence

For some of you (Adrian for example) this will be a non-achievement.  For me it's HUGE.  I've just completed my first cryptic crossword without any help.  OK it's the Two-Speed from the Dominion Post and perhaps not the hardest (OK it's probably really easy) but I did it all on my own.  Please don't tell me I've got any answers wrong.

    1. Yes Fiona. I usually do the general knowledge ones and have only had the occasional try at cryptic which has always befuddled me totally although I've tried the Two Speed before I've always ended up using the straightforward clues. This time I removed them.

  2. Well done! Those cryptic crosswords are too cryptic for me. (But jumping the fence means something different around here.)

  3. I never even ever made a serious attempt, I think. My parents used to do them, I only sometimes got involved if I happend to be around.

    1. This is my first serious attempt. If my look at a different one this morning is anything to go by it may also be my last.

  4. Well done, you! And in pen too! I am impressed. I work these in pencil, with lots of erasures, and about half the squares still empty when I'm done.

  5. My husband can do the Times cryptic - I say he has too much time on his hands . I can do the Telegraph when the winds in the right direction and the sun's over the yardarm !!!
Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog - I also like Marillion and Genesis and Jethro Tull - 'spose that says something about my age , hey ?

    1. Good to see you Jan. I got a clue in a Times Cryptic many many years ago when my wife and my Mother were trying to finish it on a car journey. I was exempt as the driver from any such distracting activities. I can remember the clue 30 or more years after. It was "One Eyeless in Gaza" in 6,9. Ask hubby!

  6. well, I won't be saying your answers are wrong, since I don't get the cryptic clues at all. So, jumping the fence means...? that's cryptic to me too

  8. Blimey, I think that for those without an aptitude for cryptic crosswords, just getting ONE clue solved is a miracle. We had a couple of cross word fanatics staying a couple of weekends ago and they were trying to explain the clues but I just couldn't get my head around them.

Anyway, WELL DONE!!!! And I don't have the slightest ideas whether the answers are right but they obviously work

  9. Congrats! I am useless at crosswords, it may be because I don't have a TV and generally avoid popular culture, but I wish there were crosswords for me. I will settle for word searches and the like.

    1. I stick to general knowledge crosswords as a rule and after another attempt at a different cryptic one today I think I shall stick to general knowledge in the future too.
